LEAN AI

Start with the work.
Expand what is possible.

A practical approach to AI transformation that begins with the people who know the work, then gives them a much larger solution set.

01 / THE EVOLUTION

NOT A PIVOT. THE NEXT TOOL.

The discipline of Lean. A radically expanded solution set.

My change toolkit has always been rooted in Lean principles and Change Acceleration Process. Bring the right people together. Make the work visible. Find the waste. Prioritize the opportunities. Put owners against action and execute.

AI does not replace that discipline. It changes the moment when a team decides what to do next. Problems once destined for a long technology backlog can now be reconsidered through tools already within reach.

02 / THE APPROACH

FROM FRICTION TO WORKING SOLUTIONS

A familiar change system, with a new question at its center.

01

SEE THE WORK

Bring the real process into the room.

The people who perform the work map the value stream together, across roles and functions. The real work becomes visible, including the handoffs and workarounds that formal process maps miss.

02

EXPOSE THE FRICTION

Find what gets in the way.

The team identifies delay, duplication, rework, manual controls, fragmented data, exceptions and other sources of waste. Problems become shared facts, not isolated frustrations.

WasteRiskPain points
03

FOCUS THE ENERGY

Prioritize what is worth solving.

Opportunities are sorted by potential impact and ease of implementation. The goal is a balanced portfolio of quick wins, larger bets and important problems that need a different path.

ImpactEffortOwnership
04

WIDEN THE POSSIBLE

Ask what AI changes.

Before locking into a conventional fix, the team pauses. With the organization’s approved tools and capabilities in view, what would we design if we could reimagine this work today?

05

BUILD AND LEARN

Put solutions into the hands of the team.

Start with practical solutions that can be built, tested and improved close to the work. Prove value quickly, strengthen controls and scale what earns the right to grow.

THE DECISION POINT

PRIORITIZE, THEN REIMAGINE

Do not let today's constraints define tomorrow's answer.

A traditional four blocker still creates focus. The difference is what happens next. For each worthwhile problem, the team explores an AI first path before assuming the answer requires a large technology program.

“What would we do differently if we could redesign this work today?”

03 / IN PRACTICE

ASSOCIATE LED. ENTERPRISE ENABLED.

When the technology backlog is no longer the only door.

Inside a large financial institution, I saw associates turn long underserved workflow problems into working solutions using approved tools already available to them.

USE CASE 01FROM SPREADSHEET SPRAWL

A shared operating view for work managed across disconnected files.

Program areas had evolved around individual spreadsheets, creating multiple versions of truth and making workflow, reporting and control visibility difficult. An associate used generative AI as a software partner to create a fit for purpose experience around one shared data source.

USE CASE 02FROM BACKLOG TO BUILD

Purpose built tools for problems too small to win enterprise priority.

Dozens of legitimate needs could not compete with the scale of the broader technology agenda. With an approved script library and Gemini as a coding partner, associates could build, test and refine focused solutions close to the work.

THE LEADERSHIP MOVE

Create a safe lane for experimentation: approved tools, reusable components, clear risk boundaries, coaching and a path to scale.

04 / HOW TO DRIVE ADOPTION

ADOPTION THROUGH USEFULNESS

Make AI feel less like a threat and more like relief.

The invitation is simple: what repeatedly frustrates you about doing your job, and what could we now fix? Real problems create a safer entry point to AI. Useful solutions build confidence, capability and demand for what comes next.

01CLIENT

Fewer handoffs, clearer status and faster response

02RISK

One source of truth, stronger controls and better visibility

03ASSOCIATE

Purpose built tools in place of spreadsheet sprawl

04ORGANIZATION

A broader bench of confident, capable problem solvers

05 / HOW I LEAD

A CAREER BUILT FOR THIS MOMENT

I do not lead AI as a technology program. I lead it as operating transformation.

That means combining the discipline to understand the work, the ambition to challenge it, the judgment to operate within enterprise risk and the practical leadership to turn possibility into adoption.

01

Start with people

Make the people closest to the work active architects of the answer.

02

Build capability

Give teams the language, tools, coaching and confidence to solve.

03

Prove value

Connect every solution to client, risk, associate or productivity outcomes.

04

Scale with intent

Learn quickly, strengthen what works and invest where the evidence leads.
